About the team

The role of the Energy & Metals Commodity Finance team is to provide risk sharing solutions and credit capacity to leading international banks for cross border trade transactions with a focus on emerging market economies and commodity related risks. The core expertise lies in evaluating deal structures and corporates from a credit risk perspective as well as in developing targeted risk-sharing solutions jointly with the client banks. The team is comprised of seasoned professionals with a sound risk taking approach as well as an established international client network.

About the role

After an appropriate period of onboarding and training you will work under supervision from senior colleagues, the main duties being to:

  • Analyse new business opportunities by assessing credit and transactional risks, terms and conditions and profitability/return, following Swiss Re processes, approved business concepts and risk appetite
  • Prepare high quality transaction submissions and engage in approval discussions with confidence
  • Support senior colleagues' negotiations with clients
  • Review documentation of transactions in cooperation with legal department
  • Post closing tasks such as transaction monitoring, amendments, restructurings and claims coordination
  • Contribute to monitoring, portfolio and cycle steering initiatives
  • Handle internal processes to ensure swift delivery to client requests
  • Gradually take on client responsibilities guided by senior team colleagues and regional business originators
  • Identify and monitor relevant market, economic and legal developments

About You

  • 2-4 years in credit/banking, ideally with specific experience in areas such as structured trade and commodity finance or longer term oil & gas and mining project finance
  • Professional experience ideally in dealing with emerging market risks
  • Good understanding of trade and commodity finance practice and transaction structures
  • Ideally, some experience working in a multi-cultural and cross-functional environment
  • Strong financial acumen with deep capital/financial markets proficiency
  • Background in numerical and structured credit analysis including projections in cash flow based financing
  • Know-how of debt/loan markets as well as contractual risk mitigation tools
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills and positive attitude
  • Self-motivated, well organized and efficient, setting adequate priorities
  • Ability to deliver quality results under pressure
  • Solution oriented, persistent and thorough, creative/curious mind
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills

Language Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English required
  • Other languages a plus

  • Business travel (ca. 10-15% of time), including extended flight time
