VERBIO North America Corporation (VNA) is a subsidiary of VERBIO AG, a well-established, successful biofuel company in Germany, with headquarters in the Plymouth/Livonia area of Michigan. VERBIO produces innovative biofuels, such a Biodiesel, Bioethanol and Biogas/Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), and feed and fertilizers as well as bio-components for the pharmaceutical, cosmetics and food industries. Currently VNA is constructing a large-scale RNG facility in Iowa, USA and is acquiring a biodiesel plant in Ontario, Canada with ambition for further growth.

Position Purpose

The Commercial Manager performs a leading role in all commercial activities of VERBIO North America and VERBIO Diesel Canada that are related to purchase of raw materials and chemicals for the biodiesel production and the sales/trading of finished products such as biodiesel, glycerin as well as for renewable natural gas (RNG) in North America. This is a full-time salaried position reporting to the Company’s CFO.

Key responsibilities

  • Raw material purchase/contracting and pipeline management of vegetable oil and chemicals for the Canadian biodiesel plant as per agreed game plan
  • Sale of biodiesel, glycerin and later of renewable natural gas as per agreed game plan
  • Managing the logistics planning team and ensure error-free, cost efficient and in-time logistics operations as well as closely cooperate with the accounting team for all products
  • Daily position reconciliation for vegetable oil, gasoil, biodiesel and forex, where applicable and active margin management for the plants and products
  • Actively suggest and execute game plans on margin management
  • Full understanding of credit risks and its active management according to pre-agreed guidelines
  • Full understanding of authority regulation in the USA and Canada (e.g. EPA, CARB, custom rules) related to our product portfolio and actively staying up-to-date on those regulations
  • Finding and developing strong relations to key suppliers and customers and pursue solutions that enhance the bottom line of both, the supplier/customer and Verbio
  • Analyze market data, build and regularly update supply and demand analysis for raw materials, finished products and renewable attributes (e.g. RIN, LCFS credits) for the North American markets and its States
  • Follow up, anticipate and regularly update on the political developments in the area of biofuels with relevance to the Verbio business in North America and its States.
  • Ensure smooth communication between plants and the VNA office as well as between functions
  • Ability to identify opportunities and maximize results with day-to-day guidance for the team

Qualifications

  • University degree and min. 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in commodity trading/merchandizing; experience in vegetable oil trading/merchandizing is a plus
  • Knowledge of contract and logistics terms in Biodiesel and/or Renewable Natural Gas
  • Technical knowledge of trading/hedging mechanisms is a plus
  • Numerical agility and attention to details
  • Ability to communicate effectively, build relationships, work in a team, and handle priorities under pressure
