We offer a complete suite of services to energy-intensive retail customers, from energy supply and hedging to on-site generation management and demand response. And we provide wholesale market access and ISO interface services to a broad network of retail energy providers with footprints across the deregulated markets. For power generation customers, we provide energy management services that encompass fuel supply, scheduling, dispatch, market analysis and risk management all within a single contract. Focused on service, we created a digital integrated platform and customer interface that allows transparent views into energy portfolios and invoices, market prices, analytics and weather.

Job Summary

This position resides in the Credit Risk Management department of EDF Trading North America and is part of the risk management function within the company. The Credit team is responsible for the management of all aspects of the credit risk mitigation effort including researching and analyzing new and existing counterparties to determine appropriate levels of exposure, negotiating and structuring of contracts and credit support arrangements, and monitoring and reporting of credit exposures and events. This position reports to the Head of Credit of EDF Trading North America.


Responsibilities

  • Interface extensively with front office personnel to gather information needed for credit due diligence on transactions and/or new counterparties in the Wholesale, Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Wholesale Retail Energy Provider (WSREP) market. This includes working with the Origination team on complex structured transactions
  • Ensure credit controls are in place and enforced to support Wholesale, C&I and WSREP businesses
  • Ensure that all documentation required for transacting, including master agreements, guarantees and letters of credit are in place, active and appropriate for transactions being contemplated by front office
  • Provide oversight, mentoring and coaching of junior team members and/or contractors, providing guidance where needed to ensure quality of work product
  • Perform financial statement analysis in order to assess the creditworthiness of counterparties and make recommendations as to appropriate credit limits and tenor restrictions. Analyze disclosures within the financial statements of counterparties to identify potential risks associated with counterparties' liquidity, regulatory environment, debt maturity schedule, operations, etc. and make recommendations as appropriate to mitigate risks
  • Lead bi-annual audits of WSREP customers, which include visiting WSREPs, writing audit reports with action plans and presenting them to Local and Global Credit Committees
  • Develop economic forecasting models related to asset coverage based on WSREP 3 to 5 year projections with sensitivity analysis
  • Perform daily monitoring activities for WSREP customers, which include collecting data from WSREP, and analyzing asset coverage reports, monitoring compliance facility limits, approving disbursement from WSREP lockboxes and other ad-hoc requests that may arise
  • Actively involved in the negotiation of credit terms in master trading and retail agreements including the negotiation of credit terms in structured transactions involving lock-box arrangements, lien-based structures, depository control agreements and other commodity financing structures as it applies to the Wholesale, C&I and WSREP markets.
  • Coordinate with Market Risk to perform audits on WSREP hedging policies as well as monitoring of positions
  • Manage Local and Global Committee presentations and ensure data presented is accurate


Requirements & Qualifications

  • Degree in an analytical field such as Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering or similar; Advanced degree a plus
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in energy credit risk and lending required; audit experience preferred
  • Understanding of front office processes and ability to balance necessities of credit risk management with commercial requirements.
  • Working knowledge of financial and physical energy trading markets; ISO markets, retail electricity & natural gas markets and the WSREP market are preferred.
  • Ability and desire to assume ownership of a variety of credit risk management duties, including counterparty reviews, credit/counterparty data maintenance, guaranty issuance and monitoring, etc.
  • Strong familiarity with financial statements (including ability to analyze capital structure, profitability and cash flow) as well as important disclosures associated with such statements.
  • Familiarity with all master trading agreements typical of the energy trading industry, including the ISDA, NAESB, EEI agreements and lien-based structures
  • Good understanding of business processes and data management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic and able to respond to changes in priorities.
  • Confident and articulate team player.
  • Previous management experience preferred
