Job Description

The Lease Crude Oil Trader will be responsible for developing and executing profitable trading strategies across the Gulf Coast Basins including Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. This role requires an ability to build strong customer relationships with producers, refiners, and transporters that translate into increased flow and profit for the desk. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to originate and operationalize new business opportunities within the wider Gulf Coast lease book.


Dimensions:

  • Develop new customer accounts and take over existing accounts in the Houston team regions.
  • Provide market intelligence to wider Shell Trading US Co. (STUSCO) North America (NA) Crude Trading Team.
  • Assist in development, execution, and growth of Lease business strategy.
  • Interface between Bulk and Lease Trading teams to execute hedges and manage basis risk.
  • Collaborate across NA Lease Team to develop new business proposals.
  • Arrange logistics necessary to support efficient flow from wellhead to bulk hubs and refineries.
  • Work with Business Development group to identify and execute new projects are infrastructure growth and entry into new areas of production.
  • Enter transactions into the deal entry system and ensure they are accurately reflected in daily PnL/exposure reports.
  • Work closely with support staff and schedulers.
  • This role is based in Houston, TX and reports to the Lease Trading Team Lead.

Requirements

  • Must have legal right to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Three (3) or more years of related work experience preferably with background in lease crude oil trading or US domestic onshore crude oil production and infrastructure.
  • Understanding of exposures associated with physical trading activities and execution of hedges.
  • Demonstrate a strong risk appetite with ability to make markets in an illiquid environment and take risk when needed.
  • Strong relationship with trucking, marine, and pipeline companies to support solid infrastructure system for barrel (bbl) movement.
  • Ability to build customer relationships and execute structural deals.
  • Ability to optimize flow across multiple trading hubs and regions.
  • Ability to work closely with operations and back office personnel to facilitate seamless desk function.
