Summary

The Petrochemicals Marketing organization handles base and discretionary petrochemicals for MPC’s coast-to-coast refining network. These streams include all grades of propylene, benzene, toluene, xylenes, and cumene. The Petrochemical Trader has primary responsibility for establishing and maintaining strong customer relationships, managing market dynamics, and maximizing profitability for the company. This position works closely with schedulers, Refining, Transportation and Logistics, Commercial Credit, and Light Products Supply and Logistics to ensure optimization of olefin and aromatics balances.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and negotiate term and spot sales and purchase contracts for benzene and cumene.
  • Coordinate sales, purchases, short- and long-term supply forecasts and production targets by working closely with schedulers, customers, suppliers, refinery personnel, blending/shipping, railcar carriers, marine, customer service, and others as necessary to provide uninterrupted supply and sales.
  • Manage/coordinate daily customer/supplies activities including pricing/invoicing, purchases, exchanges, contract administration, quality issues, and credit.
  • Follow and understand the daily activities, trends and economic drivers in the global benzene, cumene, and derivative markets. Develop and manage pricing strategies and policies that meet current market conditions and maximize short- and long-term profitability.
  • Develop, implement and update a strategic marketing plan including short and long-term objectives to profitably optimize business opportunities. Develop creative and innovative strategies for the growth, development and marketing of accounts, products, and services. Negotiate, manage and monetize storage/tank lease agreements.
  • Support business development initiatives and participate in teams as requested.
  • Work closely with other groups including Refining, Light Product Supply and Logistics, Accounting, Transportation & Logistics, Legal, and Commercial Credit to manage business.
  • Actively participate in industry associations and attend conferences as appropriate.
  • Actively participate in refinery business teams, meeting on a regular basis, to support cross-functional business management.


Education & Experience

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Engineering, or Business is required.
  • 5 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • There will be 25-30% travel associated with this role, majority being overnight travel.
