Risk and Financial Advisory Overview:

Our Risk and Financial Advisory group is comprised of more than 10,000 partners, managers and staff. We help solve our clients’ most complex financial instrument and physical market challenges by delivering risk advisory, technical accounting, quantitative, technology and operational advisory services. Specifically, our consulting projects include risk assessment and solution implementation for business strategies and policies, business processes, organization structure, risk modeling, management reporting and treasury, trading and risk systems. We help clients obtain, analyze and report information from multiple sources and across risk classes to facilitate tactical and strategic decision making.

Work you’ll do

The Sr. Consultant is responsible for leading related consulting projects, in addition to some development and supervision of staff assigned to projects. A Sr. Consultant must have knowledge within the oil and/or gas sectors and be interested in the business development aspects of being a consultant.

The Sr. Consultant is responsible for leading projects in addition to being able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of energy markets (crude, products, natural gas and/or LNG) with experience in the following topical areas:
  • Corporate Ethics and Compliance
  • FERC compliance
  • PHMSA compliance
  • EPA compliance
  • Play lead role in preparing and finalizing quality internal and external communication deliverables including technical content of client reports and proposals.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of physical or financial energy commodity markets and/or regulatory compliance issues relevant to companies operating in the oil and gas industries.
  • Demonstrate team-building, project management skills & team leadership skills.
  • Support analytical projects involving compliance and risk management challenges facing our clients.
  • Assist in the selection and tailoring of approaches, methods and tools to support client services or industry eminence.
  • Coordinate and team with professionals in other areas of Risk and Financial Advisory and Deloitte.
  • Contribute to proposal development and marketing. Participate in "add-on" sales to client.
  • Manage and balance short-term and long-term competing assignments.
  • Previous consulting experiences a plus.
  • Actively participate in decision making with engagement management and seek to understand the broader impact of current decisions on client needs and demands.
  • Generate innovative ideas and challenge to the status quo.
  • Facilitate use of technology-based tools or methodologies including the review, design and/or implementation of compliance and risk management related products and services.
  • Play role in engagement planning, economics, and billing.
  • Assist in retention of professionals and participate in training efforts.
  • Identify opportunities to cross-sell other services and improve engagement profitability.
  • Demonstrate a general knowledge of market trends, competitor activities, Deloitte & Touche products and service lines.
  • Understand clients' business environment and basic compliance and risk management approaches.
  • Membership and visibility in professional & civic organizations.
  • Participate and actively support activities related to regulatory authorities relevant to the oil and gas industry.

Travel to client sites will also be required. We are seeking an individual either with consulting experience or with experience working in a related compliance / regulatory function at an oil & gas company who can make a successful transition to a consulting environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an analytic oriented field (i.e. engineering, finance, economics, regulatory, or business) plus 2+years' experience; MBA, MS and/or MA preferred.
  • 2+ years of work experience in a commercial, compliance, or regulatory capacity in the energy industry highly preferred.
  • Business Analyst/Lead with compliance experience related to FERC, PHMSA, EPA and/or CFTC regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, measure, manage, monitor, review, and report on risks
  • Knowledge of MS Project or other similar tools is required. Skilled in all Microsoft tools such as Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Visio, and Access.
  • Experience with GRC or Compliance Management tools.
  • Experience with oil, natural gas, or LNG markets, compliance program development, and business process improvement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for report writing and client presentations.
  • Effective leadership, project management and teamwork skills.
  • Flexibility in learning new topics, handling change and deadlines.
  • Ability to travel moderately; primary business development focus is in Houston.
